A toxicology result and a performance test answer different questions. Egloff and colleagues measured both after participants vaporized two CBD-rich products, each containing less than 1% THC, or placebo. Twenty-seven volunteers completed the single-use phase of the crossover study.
What the two measurements showed
After a single use, whole-blood THC concentrations dropped below 1.5 micrograms per litre after 90 minutes, yet THC remained detectable in some participants for up to five hours. The investigators found no statistically significant difference between either active product and placebo on the overall computerized driving-related assessment.
The concentration finding depends on the laboratory method and the interval between use and collection. The performance finding depends on the tasks, sample and timing of the tests. An absence of statistical significance in this experiment leaves uncertainty about the size of any effects. A case review should identify which outcome is being cited and compare its measurement conditions with the evidence available for the individual.
